By agreeing to teach for WISC/OSAP, you (the tutor) also acknowledge and agree to the requirements and guidelines listed below.

General Expectations

  1. The tutor will understand that while we naturally rely upon the professional experience of the tutor, some of the requirements listed on this page are mandated by the British Accreditation Council and/or UK Visas and Immigration.
  2. The tutor agrees to be bound by the Code of Conduct (Statute XI of the University of Oxford’s Statutes and Regulations, found here: http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/statutes/352-051a.shtml).

Teaching Expectations

  1. The tutor agrees to provide the student with the number of Introductory Meetings and Tutorial Meetings listed by the WISC/OSAP employee in the request email, and to make every effort to do so between the start date and the end date listed in that same email.
  2. The student should write an essay of ca. 2,000 words for each tutorial meeting (or the problem set equivalent in science courses), and at the end of the term the final mark should take into account the student’s cumulative performance (both written and oral) over the course of the tutorial meetings. That is to say, there is no “final examination”.
  3. WISC/OSAP suggests the student ask his/her tutor for advice in respect of lectures that would complement the work in the tutorial meetings.

Attendance Policy

  1. Attendance at all tutorials is required.
  2. Failure to attend a tutorial may result in a loss of credits.
  3. Although tutorials may be rescheduled with the mutual agreement of the student and tutor, all tutorials arranged as part of the academic programme must be completed, including the submission of an essay of 1,500 to 2,000 words at each tutorial—or the problem set equivalent for science students—before the course end date.
  4. Students who miss a tutorial without prior authorization from WISC/OSAP and/or the tutor must attend a meeting with a WISC/OSAP academic advisor within five days of the missed tutorial. Failure to attend two consecutive tutorials without a valid reason (e.g. a doctor’s note) will result in the student being referred to his/her home institution for possible disciplinary action including, but not limited to, expulsion from the WISC/OSAP programme and a loss of credits.

Reporting Expectations

  1. The tutor understands that reporting the grades in a very timely fashion is often very important to the student (sometimes a grade is essential for graduation or in order to register for a course at home, etc.).
  2. The tutor agrees to submit the grades and report no later than thirty (30) days after the end of the course.
  3. The tutor agrees to notify WISC/OSAP promptly of any concerns regarding the student’s behaviour or academic performance (including, but not limited to, missing more than one tutorial, etc.).
  4. When requested by WISC/OSAP, the tutor should submit a mid-term progress report, or an updated attendance record, for any WISC/OSAP student he/she might be teaching.

Payments

  1. The tutor understands that he or she is not and never will be (as a tutor) an employee of WISC/OSAP. He or she is an independent contractor and therefore WISC/OSAP do not deduct taxes from the tutor’s fees; taxes will be paid by the tutor in the normal way.
  2. Tutorial fees will be paid once the teaching responsibility, listed above, is completed. It is possible the tutor may wish to amend the course for some good academic reason and upon consultation with WISC/OSAP, the fee may vary. Also, rarely it happens that a student decides he or she must drop the tutorial for a good reason. If this should happen the tutor may be paid a “kill fee” (as in journalism) for the preparation and other work the tutor has done, in consultation with WISC/OSAP.
